Delicious Easter Food Traditions

Most of us know why we celebrate Easter. In case you need a little refresher, Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Why all the eggs, chickens, rabbits and lambs then you’re asking? In Pagan times, those were symbols of new life and good luck. Also, on a more worldly level, their babies are mostly born in Spring.

Now of course this blog wouldn’t be half as interesting if there was no mention of food. So if you're wondering what is consumed around the world during Easter, read on.

Hot cross buns are a favourite in the UK and Australia as well as many other countries. The spiced sweet buns are traditionally made with currants or raisins and marked with a cross on top. They are eaten on Good Friday in Australia – but let’s be honest, most of us indulge well before that.

In the UK, you can also find Simnel Cake, which is a rich fruit cake covered with Marzipan, topped with 11 Marzipan balls and – for good measure – another layer of Marzipan in the middle of the cake.

Spend Easter in Russia and you’ll be able to indulge in Blinis and Pashka. Blinis are crêpes with toppings like sour cream, butter and caviar. Pashka is a traditional pyramid-shaped dessert made from cheese.

For a French Easter treat, try Pâté de Pâques, which is puff pastry filled with sausage, egg and vegetables. In Germany and Austria you can enjoy some Osterschinken im Brotteig, which is cooked ham baked into bread dough.

Whatever the dish, delicious food is essential for many during this time of year. But how do you make sure customers choose your business this Easter?

Festive Menu

Create some dishes that are inspired by typical Easter flavours and offer them for a limited time only. Lamb is a clear favourite – or how about offering your own, homemade hot cross buns?

Easter Egg Hunt

Announce that you’ll be hiding one or multiple plastic Easter eggs in your customers’ takeaways. Whoever finds one, wins a prize. This is the perfect competition to gain more exposure on social media.

Sweet Surprise

Add some chocolate eggs or other common Easter sweets to takeaways. It won’t break the bank and is a nice surprise for your customers. They’ll love you for this small but thoughtful detail.
